On-Site vs In-Lab Calibration: Which Should You Choose?
Both on-site and in-lab calibration are accredited and valid. Here is a practical way to decide which one fits your instrument and your production schedule.
When you request a quotation for calibration, one of the first questions is whether the work should be done on-site or in-lab. Both are accredited, valid options, and the right one depends on the instrument, not a fixed rule.
In-Lab Calibration
Performed inside a controlled metrology laboratory with stable temperature, humidity and vibration conditions. This is the right choice for portable instruments and any calibration that demands the highest achievable accuracy, since lab conditions are more tightly controlled than most plant floors.
On-Site Calibration
Performed at your facility, using portable reference standards our engineers bring with them. This suits fixed, heavy or production-critical instruments that cannot be removed from the line without stopping production, or equipment too large to transport safely.
A Simple Way to Decide
- Can the instrument be safely removed and shipped? If yes, in-lab often gives better accuracy.
- Is it fixed, oversized, or would removing it stop production? On-site is usually the practical choice.
- Do you have a large mixed batch across one site? A scheduled on-site visit is typically more efficient than shipping everything.
Both routes are performed under the same ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation and produce the same QR-verifiable certificate. See our full calibration service models, including managed and in-process options, for the complete picture.
